Theresa Soligo Obituary

Our beautiful Mother Theresa Rose Soligo walked peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 23rd, surrounded by her family in Weatherford, TX.

Theresa was the first born of eight children to Anthony and Elizabeth Soligo on June 3rd, 1947. Theresa grew up in Wilmington, DE. She graduated from Padua Academy, Class of 1965. She received her associate’s degree in Business from Thompson Business School. Theresa started her career at the Delaware Department of Justice as a secretary of the Attorney General’s Office. She then worked for the Delaware State Police as an emergency call operator. Theresa retired after 30 years from the New Castle County Police Department, where she worked as an Emergency Call Operator, Emergency Communications Dispatcher, and a Police Communications Specialist. She received many commendations for her outstanding performance, professionalism, dedication to service, and teamwork. She was affectionately referred to there as “Mama Recom.” Her ultimate goal was to make sure her police officers went home safe. Theresa loved her job and all those she worked with; they were her second family.

Theresa was a sweet, loving, kind, and generous soul who loved with all her heart and was loved by so many in return. Some knew her as Terri or Tess, but most knew her as Mom, Ma, Mama, or Mom-Mom because she treated everyone as if they were her own. She was incredibly talented and creative. Theresa shared her gift of crochet by handmaking beautiful baby outfits, gorgeous christening gowns, warm blankets, and sweaters for those around her. The beautiful detail in her work showed the love she poured into her creations. She donated her time crocheting purple baby hats for infant abuse awareness to the hospital. That is who Terri was, generous and kind to the core. She was an amazing person who will be terribly missed, but we know she will be watching over all of us from Heaven above as she did here on earth.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony James Soligo and Elizabeth Theresa Soligo. Also, by her brothers, Francis Soligo and Michael Soligo.

Theresa is survived by her daughters, Laurie Soligo Georgia and Kimberly Soligo Van Meter; her son-in-law, John Van Meter; and her grandchildren, Damon Van Meter, Christopher Georgia, Ethan Georgia, and Logan Van Meter; her brothers and sisters, Tony Soligo and wife, Diane, Chris Soligo and wife, Lori, Beth Soligo; and her sons, Joshua and Chad Marshall who affectionately called her TT; Patrick Soligo, Gina Soligo; many nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Peg Soligo (wife of Francis).

A Celebration of Life will be held in Delaware in June of 2021, details to come.
