Joe Martinez Gomez, 80, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Joe was born on January 20, 1944 in Mason, Texas to Antonio and Audelia Gomez.
Joe grew up in San Angelo, Texas and later in life moved to Borger, Texas where he raised his family and worked in the natural gas and construction industry as a truck driver for several years. Joe always took pride in his work, worked hard, and took great pride in providing for his family. Joe was a loving father and loved his family very much. Joe never knew a stranger and made many lifelong friends. He had an infectious, loving personality and was loved by everyone he met. Joe absolutely loved music. In his free time, he would spend hours listening to his record collection of his favorite artists, singing, and playing his guitar. Joe was a great singer and an accomplished guitar player, learning to play by ear and loved to entertain his family and friends at family gatherings. Later in life, Joe discovered golf, fell in love with the game, and dedicated the next several years to perfecting his golf game. Joe accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a Christian. Joe was a member of his church’s choir and used his God given musical talents to serve the Lord and his church family.
Joe loved his two sons very much and his sons loved him dearly. Later in life, when he became ill, his son Joey lovingly took care of him for the next several years until his passing.
While we grieve his passing, our spirit is not broken, and we do not grieve as the world grieves. We rejoice in knowing that he’s no longer in pain or suffering and we maintain a steadfast faith and hope because of the promises the Lord has made to His people.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died, so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio & Audelia Gomez; two brothers, Benito Gomez, Domingo Gomez; and one sister, Virginia Castaneda.
Joe is survived by his 2 sons, Joey Gomez, and John Chavarria; 4 grandchildren, Jeremiah Gomez, Kaitlyn Chavarria, Sofia Chavarria, and Olivia Chavarria; 1 brother: Vincent Gomez; 3 sisters, Alicia Sauceda, Pat Lopez, and Lenora Perez; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Fort Worth Funerals & Cremations, 8808 Camp Bowie West Blvd Suite 170, Fort Worth, Texas on Friday May 10, 2024, at 2 pm.
