Hershel Len Askins, Sr.

Hershel Len Askins Sr. went to rest in peace on Tuesday,  January 25, 2022 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. Born on July 23, 1964, in Fort Worth, Texas. Join us in celebrating the life and memory of Hershel, lovingly known to many as Mule, Animal, or just Papa Smurf. Service will be held at Palo Pinto Cowboy Church Saturday February 19th at 2:00 pm. 2731 FM Rd 129 Santo, Tx 76472.

Mule is known to most as a big teddy bear that loved life to the fullest. He was always there to help with food, money, and some big shoulders to cry on when no one else would listen. Mule loved barbecuing, and he would always watch food shows to try new techniques. His brisket is undoubtedly one of the best there ever was.

Mule hauled scrap metal for a living with his son William and occasionally with his nephew Kenny (whom he lovingly called Peanut). He knew how to separate metals to make the most money he could and would show anyone who showed interest in learning the trade. He loved to hunt with his father when the opportunity arose. He also loved to hunt or fish with his dear friend Lee.

 Awaiting to follow Mule to rest in peace are his wife, Susan; sons, William, Hershel Jr.; stepchildren, Cheryl, Daniel (DC), and David, and their families; and precious friend, Rocky.  Extended family includes, his father, Paul Askins and wife, Linda and their families; brother Kenneth Sr.; sister, Rose and their families; sister in laws, Laurie and husband, Kevin, Teresa and son, Becky and her family, Carolyn and husband, William and their families; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends who will miss Mule greatly. We hope they know that he had a place in his heart for each and every one that called him friend.
