Glory Griggs Obituary

Glory Griggs, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, stepped into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2024, after having lived life to its fullest for 82 years.


Glory was born May 27, 1941, Glory was the oldest child born to Gustava & Richard Tell. Glory graduated from I.M. Terrell High School in 1959 and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Bishop College and obtained her master’s degree from Texas Wesleyan, not only pledging her life to God but also as a Sorority Sister in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Soon after, Glory caught Lonnie Gene’s attention and married on August 20, 1962, to this union they were blessed with 3 children Michael, Estella, and Darrell.

Glory taught children in Fort Worth ISD for over 40 years, she also served as the First Lady of New Mount Carmel before the passing of Pastor Lonnie Griggs on January 30, 1989. You would always be taught a lesson whether it be in the classroom, church, or home. Glory could read you a book or read you your rights with love!

As a longtime educator, loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family and friends. Glory was a warrior throughout many of her challenges in life. Most notably through her battle with dementia, which is a testament to her strength and fighting spirit. Glory will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. 


Glory Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Gustava & Richard Tell Sr.; husband, Rev. Lonnie Griggs; and siblings, Richard Tell Jr, Carolyn Larkin, and Verdell Davis.

Glory is survived by her children, Michael Sr., daughter in law, Tracey, Estella, and Darrell Sr., daughter in law, Kemitria; grandchildren, Michael Jr, LaRozz, Brittney, Fred, Micah, Ariana, Kinglsey, Chloe, Keaton, Ja’Koby, Darrell II, and Delaney; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Sherry Ann Tell; two nieces, Kimberly Smith and Keisha Brown; nephew, Roy Lee; special cousin, Pam Bassett; and God sister, Pebelok Pinkston; numerous relatives, KMC church family, and a host of friends.
