It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the unexpected passing of Eric Martinez, who left this world peacefully at home on June 22, 2026. Born on September 11, 1981, in the warm expanses of New Mexico, Eric lived a life marked by laughter, love, and an unwavering dedication to those he held dear.
Eric was the beloved son of Arthur and Beatrice Martinez. His mother, Beatrice, and siblings, Arthur and Julie, predeceased him.
Eric’s journey took him through the halls of Azle High School, from which he graduated in 2000. His passion for life was evident in his many interests. A devoted fan of Notre Dame’s “The Fighting Irish” football team since childhood, Eric carried that enthusiasm into adulthood. He was also an avid collector of baseball cards, each piece a cherished story from the sport he loved. Music played a significant role in his life—Eric was particularly drawn to the powerful rhythms of NuMetal bands like Slipknot, Korn, Hatebreed, and Fear Factory, whose sounds resonated with his vibrant spirit.
Known to many as the “fungi” who could light up a room with his humor, Eric possessed a heart as expansive as his love for laughter. He was a friend to many and a confidant to more than he perhaps realized, always ready to support and uplift those around him.
In late 2020, Eric’s life took a beautiful turn when he met Amanda Williams. Their love story blossomed, culminating in a heartfelt engagement on New Year’s Eve of 2024. They were filled with joy and anticipation for their wedding, planned for June 29, 2026, in Fort Walton Beach. Though tragedy intervened, their love story remains an enduring testament to the power of love and commitment.
Eric leaves behind his devoted fiancée, Amanda, who stood by his side with unwavering love. He is also survived by his cherished children; daughters, Khelsie Pyle and Jade Martinez; son, EJ Martinez; stepson, Kyler Garza; and his new granddaughter, Willow.
Eric’s family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and kind words during this difficult time. They extend a special thanks to Freedom Hospice for their compassionate support of Amanda. To honor Eric’s memory, a private funeral ceremony will be held, as per the family’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Eric Martinez Go Fund Me page, a memorial fund established to celebrate the legacy of a man who lived with passion and loved without reservation.
Eric’s laughter, love, and light will forever echo in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the warmth of those he loved and the memories he created.
Poem:
For Eric
Today we gather to honor Eric,
A man who lived life with passion, loyalty, and heart.
Whether cheering from the couch, the stands, or among friends,
Notre Dame wasn't just a team to him—it was a tradition he loved.
Like the Fighting Irish, Eric faced life's challenges with determination,
Celebrated its victories with gratitude,
And stood by the people he loved through every season.
Though the final whistle came far too soon,
His story does not end here.
The love he gave, the laughter he shared,
And the memories he created live on in all of us.
May the Golden Dome shine brightly on the memories he leaves behind.
May the cheers he loved remind us of the joy he found in life.
And may we find comfort knowing that while he is no longer beside us,
His spirit remains in every story, every smile, and every treasured memory.
Today, we say goodbye with heavy hearts,
But also, with gratitude for having known him.
For a devoted father, fiancé, friend, and Fighting Irish fan,
May he rest in peace and watch over those he loved.
Go Irish, Eric. Your legacy lives on.
Thanks
Amanda
