David Herndon Sanders

David Herndon Sanders passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Graveside service: 1 p.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Laurel Land Cemetery for family and close friends.

David was born in Anson, Texas on July 18, 1927 to David Carrol and Lena Herndon Sanders. He grew up in the Dust Bowl at Sunray, Texas and graduated from high school in 1943. A U.S. veteran, he served in the Army Special Services until discharged in 1946. He attended WTSC in Canyon and transferred to TCU in September 1949. David received his bachelor’s degree in 1951 and earned a CPA certificate in 1958. After stints in public accounting, he worked as an oil accountant for most of his career and also had a tax practice before finally retiring in 2000.  David married Emma Louise Gentzke, a TCU librarian, on April 10, 1953 and they enjoyed 50 happy years before she went to be with the Lord in October 2003. David was a long-time member and elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as Treasurer for several years. He loved his family, travel, reading, genealogy, computer surfing, and Bible study as well as college football on T.V.

David was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and beloved sister, Lola Pearl Gough.

He is survived by his daughter, Marianne and son in law, Gene; grandson, David and wife, Jill; granddaughter, Kathryn and husband, Michael; two adored great grandsons, Jackson David, and Reed Robert. He was so proud of his grandchildren and their spouses and all their accomplishments.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in his honor to one of his favorite charities, Union Gospel Mission, or the Tarrant County Food Bank.
