Cheryl Lynn (Ott) Lovejoy, 78, of Azle, Texas, passed away on July 14, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Born on February 13, 1947, in Enid, Oklahoma, Cheryl was raised on a wheat farm outside of Drummond. She was the cherished daughter of Ira and Hazel Ott and attended grade school and high school in Drummond. Cheryl went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Oklahoma State University, where she met Steve Lovejoy and began an endearing relationship that would span 57 years.
On June 21, 1968, Cheryl and Steve were married in Drummond, embarking on a life marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering partnership. As a devoted stay-at-home mom, she poured her heart into raising their three sons Mitch, Chris, and Jay, and then worked for the Lubbock Area Foundation when they were older. Once her sons were grown, she applied her organizational talents at Northern Telecom as an Executive Administrator and later joined the BNSF Railroad corporate marketing department after moving to Azle over 25 years ago.
Cheryl’s greatest joy was her family. She delighted in crafting home-cooked meals for family dinners, hosting holiday feasts, and creating festive traditions especially at Christmas and Thanksgiving, when every decoration, recipe, and shared laugh made the seasons magical. She made every person feel special when their birthday rolled around, spending time shopping, laughing, and celebrating each family member. She spent countless hours enjoying the lake with her grandchildren boating, water skiing, and swimming, treasuring every moment and sunset. She was incredibly supportive of and dedicated to her children and grandchildren, and she and Steve could always be found at countless band performances, competitions, productions and sports events, cheering on their beloved grandkids.
A passionate crafter, reader, and traveler, she delighted in fashion, shopping, gardening, and spending time with her book club and card group. She cherished her friendships old and new. Cheryl had the gift of turning the ordinary into something beautiful. Her talents were endless--from refurbishing old furniture to renovating a farm house; from assisting the highest level executives at a multinational telecom company to growing a stunning garden; from crafting gorgeous projects to arranging amazing trips for her large family—but her greatest ability was using her myriad of talents to better the lives of her friends and family, making each and every one of them feel cherished and loved. Her daughters-in-law often joked with her that she set the bar impossibly high, yet Cheryl was always very humble about her endeavors, and she was a blessing to so many.
Cheryl found strength and inspiration in her Sunday school class at First Methodist Church. Her deep faith guided her acts of kindness and her unwavering support for those around her. As a former member of the Azle Women’s Club, she took great pleasure in serving the community.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Steve Lovejoy; sons, Mitch Lovejoy, Chris Lovejoy (wife Samantha), and Jay Lovejoy (wife Erica); grandchildren Katie, Ryan, Amanda, and Evan; brother, Max Ott (wife Vicki); sister, Sheri Rogers (husband Bill); and sister-in-law Linda Farley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Hazel Ott.
Cheryl’s legacy of love, joy, and faith lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her ability to make every gathering warm and every holiday beautiful will be treasured always. As her youngest grandchild remarked, “Grandmother always made everything so special. Nothing will ever be the same.” However, the family is determined to carry Cheryl’s legacy forward, in the hope that they can bless others in the ways that she has blessed them.
Viewing: 10 a.m. Friday, July 18th at First Methodist Church of Azle, 200 Church St., Azle 76020 followed by funeral service at 11 a.m.
