Charles Steven (Steve) Axe

Charles Steven (Steve) Axe, 71 went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2021. His family, friends and co-workers called him Steve. He was a long-time resident of Mansfield, TX. 

Steve was the son of Maurice Irving Axe and Juanita McMillan Axe of Dallas, TX. He was born on October 1, 1950 in Dallas, TX. He had one sister, Brenda Gail (Axe) Ewing. Steve married in 1970 and had three sons:  Brian, Craig, and Jason. He attended Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, TX and graduated in 1968. After high school, Steve attended El Centro Junior College in Dallas, TX and later attended Eastfield College in Mesquite, TX.  He earned an “Associate of Arts” degree May 14, 1972. Steve then attended East Texas State University in Commerce, TX, to earn a “Bachelor of Business Administration” degree on May 15, 1976. Later in life, Steve enrolled at Amberton University in Garland, TX and earned his “Masters of Business Administration” in 1999. Education was very important to Steve and his family was extremely proud of him for his hard work and obtaining his many degrees. Steve’s work history began at American Thread Co., Dallas, TX, where he worked several years while attending college. Next, Steve worked at Miller Brewing Co. in Fort Worth, TX as a warehouse supervisor for 18 years and finally Illes Food Products in Carrollton, TX before retiring. 

Steve was an active member of First Methodist Church in Mansfield, Texas and attended church regularly. He was an avid sports fan and one of his great joys in life was coaching each of his sons and their teams in soccer for many years. It was not uncommon for Steve to coach two soccer teams at once. His weekends were very busy with soccer, football, and baseball games with his boys. Steve enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Dallas Stars, Texas Rangers, National soccer teams, and he especially enjoyed taking his sons to the games. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and one of his favorite trips each year was to Colorado to elk hunt with his son, Brian. He was very proud to take down a 6x6 bull elk in 2017. He enjoyed fishing with his son, Craig, and grandson, Brandon. He also enjoyed visiting with his son, Jason, and playing with his granddaughter, Elise. Steve’s pride and joy were his grandchildren. No matter how far away or how hot or cold it was, Steve rarely missed a game. He supported his grandchildren in all their endeavors which included soccer, football, tennis and even farm animal shows at the stock yards. Steve loved his family, first and foremost.  

Steve is survived by sons, Brian Preston Axe and his wife, Nikki of Burleson, TX, Jason Cory Axe and his wife, Sheri of Dallas, TX; grandsons, Brandon Craig Axe of Mansfield, TX, and Cooper Preston Axe of Burleson TX; and granddaughters, Kendall Grace Axe of Burleson, TX and Elise Fern Axe of Dallas, TX. 

Steve was preceded in death by parents, Maurice Irving Axe and Juanita McMillan Axe; sister, Brenda Gail (Axe) Ewing; and son, Craig Steven Axe. 

Funeral services will be held January 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM at First Methodist Church, 777 N Walnut Creek, Mansfield, TX.  Reverend Sharon Reid will be officiating the service.  There will be a small gathering in the church atrium after the service. 

Flowers can only be delivered on the day of the funeral to the church after 9:00 AM.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcomed in honor of Charles Steven Axe to Wounded Warriors.
