Carol McCarty Obituary

Carol Norman McCarty was born March 16, 1936 in Fort Worth, Texas and died of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS)  on December 1, 2020 at the age of 84.

Carol was diagnosed with ALS in August, 2020. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School and TCU with a degree in Medical Microbiology.  Carol and her husband, Col. James (Jim) E. McCarty, M.D. were married 36 years and lived in Washington, D.C., Heidelberg, Germany and Japan. They were extremely well-traveled. They retired to Flower Mound, Texas where they attended the Trinity Presbyterian Church.  They were very active in church life and acquired many, many friends whom Carol loved dearly. After Jim's death, Carol moved into the "City" of Flower Mound and formed many new friends. She was an excellent cook. Carol moved to Trinity Terrace in Fort Worth in March of 2012. Carol continued to add to her massive friend list.  One person said of Carol:  "She was one-of-a-kind, so witty, honest and smart."

Carol is preceded by her parents, Emmett V. Norman and Carrabel Airington Norman Goodwin; and her beloved husband, Col. James (Jim) E. McCarty, M.D.

Carol is survived by her sister, Sylvia Macomber & husband, Tom, who also live at Trinity Terrace; nieces, Susie (Alan), Angela Obrecht and her children, Krista and Dolan; nephew, John Obrecht, wife Gigi and their children, Isobel and Cole Obrecht; cousin, Jerry Shelton and many cousins on the Norman side of the family. Carol is also survived by Mark McCarty and Karen McCarty Gibbons, children through marriage; and a myriad of dear friends at Trinity Terrace and elsewhere who will miss her dearly.
